Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy Charter School (BELA), a new all-girls high school located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, focused on SISTERHOOD, SCHOLARSHIP, STRENGTH and SERVICE is deeply committed to a 100% of our students completing college. Founded on the belief that academic and life preparation is equally as important; each BELA young woman will embark on her own personal and intellectual journey. Students will empower and uplift, while respectfully questioning norms to develop their own identities within their rich cultures and communities. The Role

The Technology Director oversees the development, implementation, and management of technology initiatives to support both administrative and educational objectives. This role involves strategic planning, managing IT staff and resources, ensuring data security, and integrating technology into the curriculum to enhance teaching and learning. BELA is a 1:1 device school. All students and staff have MacBook devices. 

The Technology Director will lead the school's efforts to leverage technology in creating a dynamic learning environment for students and an efficient administrative system for staff. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of technology planning, implementation, and support, ensuring alignment with the school's educational goals and compliance with state and federal regulations.

    This is a full-time position with a May 15, 2024 start date. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a technology plan that aligns with the school's mission and educational goals, including infrastructure upgrades, software and hardware acquisitions, and the integration of new teaching technologies.

  • Management: Oversee the IT team, including hiring, training, and performance management. Manage relationships with vendors and service providers.

  • Infrastructure and Network Management: Ensure reliable operation of IT infrastructure, including network security, data storage, and backup systems. Oversee the maintenance and upgrading of hardware and software.

  • Educational Technology Integration: Collaborate with faculty to integrate technology into the curriculum, supporting innovative teaching methods and enhancing students’ learning experiences.

  • Budgeting and Procurement: Develop the technology budget and oversee procurement processes, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with strategic goals.

  • Security and Compliance: Implement and monitor security protocols to protect data and ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies, such as FERPA.

  • Support and Training: Provide day to day technical support to staff and students, and organize professional development and training on new technologies and systems.

  • Evaluation and Reporting: Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of technology initiatives and report on progress to school leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience in an educational setting, preferably within a charter school environment in NYC.

  • Strong leadership and project management skills.

  • Proficient in current educational technologies and IT infrastructure management.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, and external partners.
